A new citation metrics was recently prepared by Mendeley; Mendeley is a free reference manager and an academic social network. They have created a publicly available database of 100,000 top-scientists (actual list is longer, ~160,000) that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator. Separate data are shown for career-long and single year impact. Metrics with and without self-citations and ratio of citations to citing papers are given. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields that include all disciplines of science, engineering and medicine. Field- and subfield-specific percentiles are also provided for all scientists who have published at least 5 papers. Mandeley ranks scientists in two categories: career-long and single-year citation. Career-long data are updated to end-of-2019.
Prof. Drelich is well recognized in both categories. He is ranked as number 7,818 (top ~0.1%) in the world, with only one other researcher/scientist from Michigan Tech that is listed ahead of Prof. Drelich. Regarding career-long category, he is already among the top 31,000 in the world (which makes him top 0.4-0.5%) due to his publications under the Science Metrix category of Physics & Astronomy, and two subfields of this category including Chemical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. There is only one active person from Michigan Tech, who is listed ahead of him.
This world-wide climbing of Prof. Drelich’s name reflects the quality of his team members and directions toward advanced materials and surfaces, biomedical engineering and his expertise in wetting phenomena. Many of his former and current students, postdoctoral fellows and collaborators contributed to this recognition.
